Jess At The PC...

So, for those folks who know me they would tell you I am a geek.  The weird part is that I just end up stumbling upon this passion.  My original goal in life was to be a PE Teacher and Dance Team Coach or maybe even own a dance studio.  I did end up with the dance studio for a short period of time, but that is a whole other story.

I got my first PC from a boss for helping her work on the company website when I was on the East Coast.  Of course the only knowledge I had was by figuring things out as I used them for work and school.   I then moved back to Medford and got a job as an admin assistant for a homeless and runaway teen program at a non-profit agency.  I continued to hone my knack for PCs and ended up being the go to person for computer questions.  After several years working for the HART program and designing a small network with one server and a handful of PCs as well as a new phone system,  the non-profit agency offered me a job overseeing and building the network infrastructure for the agency.   I think this was a remarkable accomplishment since I had NEVER taken ANY computer science classes EVER!  As part of the deal, they even agreed to pay for my schooling while I worked for them.  After 8 years working for the non-profit, solely building and upgrading four integrated networks and managing 100+ computers and 150 users a new opportunity presented itself.  I got a job working for one of the hospital systems as one of twelve Support Services Technicians that support end user devices and applications.  This was a major jump into an infrastructure that has thousands of networked devices, 300+ applications, and multiple wide spread sites.  Three months after getting the job, I interviewed for the recently vacated Support Services Supervisor position and got that job three months later.

Without a love for technology and playing with many the new toys that are developed, I would not be where I am today.  So now I joke around about becoming a teacher in retirement.  Of course I doubt I will teach PE.  It will have to be computer science and instead of the Dance Team it may be the Geeks Club!
